My interest in guitar building started at age ten when my guitar teacher showed me an instrument that had just been built for him. I was astounded by the concept of a custom, hand-built guitar. From that moment, I knew I wanted to pursue a career as a luthier. When I was fourteen, with much help from Mark Johnson (the luthier who had made my guitar teacher’s guitar), I made my first guitar. Really, Mark did most of the important stuff and I pieced the parts together. The experience only solidified the idea that I was to become a luthier.
At nineteen, I began working for Santa Cruz Guitar Company, learning the basics and beginning to see what it takes to make a high-end guitar. I was interested in working for a smaller-scale shop, so I touched based with Rick Turner of Turner Renaissance Guitars. After a year of calling Rick on the same day of every month, he hired me. I finally had the teacher I had been looking for.
Between Rick and the other accomplished luthiers that have worked with him over the years, I have learned everything from design to completion. I have also spent time working with Scott Walker, who has become a true mentor, not only in terms of showing me innovative design techniques, but also enlightening me on the nitty-gritty details on how to start up a one-man guitar shop.
I draw the inspiration for my designs from classic instruments whose style has withstood the test of time. My goal is to bring the traditional, beautiful style of these guitars into a well-performing, great-sounding instrument that is uniquely tailored to each individual player.

I had created a business plan to start an international art business highlighting a kinetic sculpture/prism project I developed I called the Light Dancer, the prototype was built, the website designed, and a full written business and marketing plan. I well reintroduce Light Dancer to the world in a later edition of the ziggysurfcatz website.
